Kards for Kindness

A student-led volunteer organization helping students bring kindness and encouragement to children and families.

Volunteer With Us

Our Mission

Kards for Kindness gives students simple, hands-on ways to support children and families facing illness and other difficult circumstances.

Volunteers make handwritten cards, send digital messages, put together care packages, and take part in community projects that offer comfort and encouragement.

We believe even a small act of kindness can brighten someone’s day.

About Us

Kards for Kindness was founded by Elizabeth Ouimet and Carolina Diaz to help students turn their creativity into acts of kindness for children and families.

We make it easier for students to volunteer by sharing clear projects, instructions, and ways to help through cards, eCards, care packages, and community outreach.

Kards for Kindness is proud to partner with OmniMed Initiative. Together, we support student-led service, community outreach, and healthcare-focused projects.

Kards for Kindness is currently applying for federal recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.

Our student leadership team meets at Morse Institute Library as a community study group.

Volunteer With Us

Students can choose from several service projects that support children and families facing illness and other challenges.

Volunteer options include:

  • Handwritten cards
  • Digital eCards
  • Care packages
  • Community outreach initiatives

Our goal is to make volunteering clear and welcoming while helping students build responsibility, leadership, and a stronger connection to their community.

Volunteer Process

To volunteer with Kards for Kindness:

  • Review the available projects and read the guidelines before getting started.
  • Choose an approved project: digital eCards for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, handmade cards for Cards for Hospitalized Kids, or an approved outreach project with OmniMed Initiative.
  • Complete the project by following the receiving organization's current rules. Use the Kards for Kindness Volunteer Spreadsheet for submission details, email addresses, and mailing information.
  • After submitting the project, email the partner organization and CC Kards for Kindness at kardsforkindness@gmail.com.
  • Record your hours in the Volunteer Hours Spreadsheet and share it with Kards for Kindness.

We can verify volunteer hours after we receive both the project confirmation and the completed hours record.

Volunteer Projects

Handwritten Cards

  • Volunteers make handwritten cards with kind, uplifting messages.
  • Cards should be original, positive, and appropriate for children and families.
  • Handwritten cards may be made for Cards for Hospitalized Kids or another project specifically approved by Kards for Kindness. Always check the receiving organization's current guidelines before sending anything.

Digital eCards

  • Volunteers can send digital eCards through St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's official eCard program.
  • When a project calls for it, digital cards may also be sent to Kards for Kindness for printing and use in an approved OmniMed Initiative outreach project.

Care Packages

  • Care packages and supply drives are offered only when Kards for Kindness announces an approved project with a receiving organization.
  • Only collect items that match the receiving organization's current wish list and safety rules.
  • Before collecting or mailing supplies, check the Volunteer Spreadsheet for the current project instructions.

Volunteer Expectations

We ask every volunteer to be honest, respectful, and thoughtful. Volunteers should:

  • Record only the work and hours you actually complete.
  • Complete your own project and put genuine effort into it.
  • Communicate respectfully with our team and partner organizations.
  • Create work that is kind, encouraging, and considerate of the recipient.
  • Follow the guidelines from Kards for Kindness and from the organization receiving your project.

Volunteer projects must be the student’s own work. Artificial intelligence may not be used to write messages, create designs, or complete any part of a submitted project.

Student Leadership

Our student leadership team handles outreach, communication, volunteer questions, and the day-to-day growth of the organization.

  • Elizabeth Ouimet — Co-Founder, Director, Communications Director, and Technology Director
  • Carolina Diaz — Co-Founder, Director, Secretary, and Content Creator
  • Leighton Jammen — Director, Head Outreach Officer, Legal Director, and Treasurer
  • Elena Acimovic — Head of the Chicago Chapter and Content Creator
